Design and Technology
The Design and Technology curriculum at Gascoigne Primary School is dedicated to fostering a sense of inquisitiveness, imagination, and a genuine passion for learning. We aspire to nurture the aspirations of our pupils and encourage them to push the boundaries of their creativity while designing and making their own innovative products.
The Design and Technology curriculum at our school is designed to serve the four principles as follows:
Ourselves
- We aim to inspire our children to become naturally curious, creative, and self-motivated problem-solvers and innovators, whether working independently or collaboratively.
- Our goal is to instil a sense of enjoyment and accomplishment when they engage in the designing, making and evaluating of functional products.
- We are committed to challenging every child to reach their highest potential.
Our World
- We strive to create an environment where innovation and creativity can thrive, adapting to the ever-changing landscape of our society.
- Our curriculum exposes children to diverse perspectives, broadening their outlook on the world.
- We also educate children about the broader environmental implications of their designs, fostering sustainable thinking.
Our Education
- Our curriculum is designed to make Design and Technology relevant to practical, real-life scenarios, with children creating functional products for specific purposes.
- We encourage effective communication about their own projects and the work of their peers.
- In our safe and nurturing learning environment, children are encouraged to experiment and take calculated risks.
Our Rights
- We educate children about self-regulation to ensure responsible behaviour and the safety of themselves and others.
- We also impart knowledge about principles of nutrition, healthy eating, and cooking.
- Upholding Article 29 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, our education endeavours to support each child in developing their intellectual, physical, and creative potential, while fostering respect for others and the world around them, including their own rights and those of others.
